Sunrise Hope Counseling — Trauma, Grief & EMDR Therapy in NY & AZ

Trauma, Grief & EMDR Therapy · New York & Arizona

Healing is possible. Hope begins here.

Compassionate, trauma-informed counseling for the effects of trauma, grief, and chronic illness — in person in North Syracuse and by secure telehealth across New York and Arizona.

You don't have to face it alone.

Welcome

You don't have to face it alone.

Reaching out for therapy is often one of the hardest steps to take. Whether you're struggling with the effects of trauma, grieving the loss of someone you love, adjusting to a chronic illness, or feeling overwhelmed, you don't have to carry it by yourself.

I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arizona. I offer in-person counseling in North Syracuse, along with secure telehealth throughout New York and Arizona — so you can receive specialized trauma care wherever you feel most comfortable.

My goal is to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where healing can begin. Every person deserves to be seen, heard, and supported as they move toward a life no longer defined by pain.

You deserve to be seen, heard, and supported.

Areas of Specialization

Focused, specialized trauma care.

I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, profound grief, and the emotional weight of chronic illness. This is the work I've devoted my practice to.

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)

Gentle, paced work to ease the lasting imprint of prolonged or repeated trauma.

Childhood Trauma & Attachment

Tending to early wounds and attachment injuries so they no longer shape your present.

PTSD & Traumatic Experiences

Reprocessing distressing memories so they become part of your past, not your present.

Traumatic Grief & Bereavement

A soft place to carry loss, honor who you've lost, and let the light slowly return.

Sudden, Suicide & Complicated Loss

Steady, compassionate support through the most disorienting and painful kinds of loss.

Chronic Illness & Medical Trauma

Care for the emotional impact of illness, diagnosis, and medical experiences on body and mind.

Specialized Trauma Therapy

Helping the mind and body heal.

Trauma affects more than memories — it lives in the nervous system, our relationships, and the way we see ourselves. My approach helps both mind and body heal, rather than simply managing symptoms. I use evidence-based therapies tailored to you.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps the brain naturally reprocess traumatic memories so they become less distressing — part of your past, so you can move forward with greater peace and resilience.

Eye Movement Reprocessing

Flash Technique

A gentle, evidence-informed method that reduces the intensity of traumatic memories without requiring you to describe painful experiences in detail — especially helpful when traditional processing feels overwhelming.

Gentle · Low-overwhelm

EFT / Tapping

Emotional Freedom Techniques pair gentle tapping on acupressure points with focused attention to calm the nervous system, ease anxiety and distress, and strengthen emotional regulation.

Nervous-system calming

REBT

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy helps identify and gently challenge the beliefs that fuel anxiety, shame, guilt, and suffering — building healthier, more balanced ways of thinking that support lasting well-being.

Balanced thinking

Healing is not one-size-fits-all. We move at a pace that feels safe.

The Heart of Our Name

Why the cactus?

Cactus flowers bloom in the desert — through drought, heat, and long, hard seasons. They're quiet proof that beautiful things can grow in the most difficult places.

The same is true for you. Healing doesn't mean forgetting what happened — it means reducing the weight those experiences carry, so they no longer control your present or limit your future. With patience and the right support, even the hardest seasons can bloom into a sunrise after a long night.

Resilience isn't about never struggling. It's about still growing.

Healing Takes Courage

It takes courage to heal — and you don't do it alone.

Healing from trauma, profound grief, or the emotional impact of chronic illness is rarely a straight path. It takes tremendous courage to revisit painful memories and face experiences that have shaped your life.

There may be moments when progress feels slow. That doesn't mean therapy isn't working — healing often happens in small, meaningful steps, as your mind and body learn that they are safe again.

My role isn't to push you beyond what feels safe, but to walk beside you with compassion, patience, and evidence-based care. Together, we'll honor your story, build on your strengths, and move at a pace that respects your nervous system and your readiness to heal.

We can't change the past — but we can change how it lives within you.

Meet Jana

Hi, I'm Jana.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of healing. My approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed — an environment where you feel emotionally safe, accepted without judgment, and empowered to rediscover your own resilience.

Whether you're grieving, healing from childhood trauma, navigating a chronic illness, or carrying the weight of the past, my goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, restore hope, and create lasting change. Healing isn't about becoming someone different — it's about rediscovering the person you've always been beneath the pain.
